Beauty from Silk to Skin
Most locals raise silkworms to obtain silk and sell it. However, the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen, is finding other uses for these insects. We are raising silkworms and selling them at the Kasetapirom Café – not as silk, but as Natural Facial Mousse made from silkworm cocoons!
Fibers are glued together by silkworms to form robust cocoons with a natural glue called sericin, a kind of protein. It has absorption and water retention properties that we can use within our facial mousse to help nourish and moisturize your skin.
Our Natural Facial Mousse production processes are all natural, so even people with chemical sensitivities can use it regularly – unlike other traditional facial foam available on the market. Similar to the process used in silk reeling, alkali water is used to extract sericin from silkworm cocoons. This extracted water is then mixed with oil to obtain the golden facial mousse ready for use and to pass on its benefits to our skin.
With research, we can now find additional uses for the waste water and turn it into valued products that stand out for their raw natural materials. The Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen will continue looking for other natural values and uses and transform these into exceptional products like those we can see at the Kasetapirom Café today.
