Omega-3 Now Present In Eggs
Today people are worried about cholesterol, which causes pressure on some people to avoid high-cholesterol foods. Unfortunately, eggs fall in this category and are recognized as being potentially harmful. However, eggs may not be bad as we think. With a better more knowledge and a better understanding about cholesterol, we will no longer live in fear or need to miss out on our favorite foods.
There are two main types of cholesterol: HDL and LDL. HDL is health beneficial cholesterol, while LDL is bad cholesterol that can cause cardiovascular disease. We all know that eggs contain cholesterol, however they contain the beneficial HDL. Thus, eggs in moderation are not harmful to our health and can even help prevent hyperlipidemia.
If you are still nervous about high blood cholesterol levels due to egg consumption, there is research to relieve your concerns and assure you of their benefits. In a study of more than 100,000 participants over a decade, Howard University found that daily egg intake is not harmful to health and not a major cause in increasing the risk of heart disease or blood cholesterol levels. On the contrary, it can protect consumers from heart disease.
The Poultry Farm at the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen, Kasetsart University, has conducted studies to extract the active compounds from eggs for use in other applications, such as peptide extract for immunity boosting, lysozyme extract for anti-microbial agents, and collagen extracted from shell membranes as a supplement to improve health.
Omega-3 is normally found in expensive fish or other seafood that may not be affordable to consumers. However, the Poultry Farm developed a way to add it to the egg yolk in its 'Omega 3 Egg.' This has added even more value to the egg and made Omega-3 easy to access in local food such as boiled eggs, fried eggs or Thai omelets.
The Farm has also developed other fortified eggs, including the Micro Pigment Egg, Astaxanthin Egg, Lutein Egg, Pandan Egg, and Iodine Egg. With so many benefits, we believe that consumers no longer need to worry about health problems from eggs.
