New Peach Variety Satisfies both Consumers and Farmers
The peach has played an important role in Thai society for the last 50 years when the Royal Project Foundation encouraged hill tribes to replace their existing opium crops with the fruit. This change literally brought new life to the locals, when a new peach variety was developed at The Royal Agricultural Station Angkhang. After 20 years, the 'Ruby Gold 1' peach is now registered as a new plant variety.
Peaches are recognized as the queen of temperate fruits, following only apples, because of their signature sweetness. For you peach lovers out there, trust us when we say you have not tried the best peach until you have tried the Ruby Gold 1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Unaruj Boonprakob, in cooperation with the Royal Project Foundation, developed this variety through open pollination of the Jade variety. The Ruby Gold 1 is a crossbreed with a golden yellow surface that later dons beautiful reds true to its name. Its yellow flesh is delicious with a crisp and crunchy texture and juiciness.
In addition to its consumer appeal, farmers are also pleased to grow the Ruby Gold 1 because it has vigorous growth and is resistant to disease. It also produces fruit in a shorter period of time with consistent quality. Harvested peaches have a long shelf life and endurance during transportation and maintain their freshness from farm to consumer.
The Ruby Gold 1 can be enjoyed fresh or used in cooking and baking too. Although the peach needs temperate weather on a hillside and is currently only grown in limited areas, such as Khun Wang, Inthanon and Angkhang, we hope that urbanites are also able to experience its deliciousness soon.
